ScareHouse, at Pittsburgh Mills, brings back crowd-favorite characters to celebrate 20 years of scares

The flashlights are another adaptation; they give a way to explore the room without touching anything. Though the actors can no longer invade a visitor's personal space—they have to stay six feet away and wear a face mask at all times (as do customers)—there are plenty of other tools in the haunt master's toolbox. This season our primary focus is to make sure ScareHouse is better than ever and that means tireless attention to every detail of that experience. We’re grateful that ScareHouse was permitted to open in 2020 and 2021 but the strict covid protocols that were in place over the last two years limited the intensity and length of our attraction. Even with these challenges the majority of our fans continued to support us. The short answer is that we don’t have any specific dates yet but we’re committed to bringing The Basement back as soon as we can.

"We told them, 'Don’t touch anyone, but get as close as you can,'" Scott Simmons, founder and creative director of the longtime haunted attraction, tells Mental Floss. Save money and guarantee admission when you purchase haunted house tickets for ScareHouse in Pittsburgh in advance. One of the scariest haunted house in Pittsburgh is now located at Pittsburgh Mills. Located in Tustin, California, a relatively sleepy town not far from Disneyland, The 17th Door is situated in one of those outdoor malls common in suburbia — a Best Buy, an Old Navy, a Christian bookstore, etc. The haunted house itself is in a nondescript beige blob of a building that was probably once held a Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

When passing through the darkened bathroom stage, patrons see a mirror that’s actually a replication of the bathroom stage behind Plexiglas. As the show’s presence ascended, it would attract many A-list celebrities to take part, but some fans would complain that they forgot to keep it scary and credible. However, there are still some scares to be found in the early seasons before it descends into camp and cliche.

Despite his success, Simmons is happy to bring a more intimate experience to town, one he hopes will create horrific memories for a new generation of Pittsburghers. Over the past 20 years, Simmons has watched the small, seasonal fright fest he started with his dad, Wayne, mutate into a year-round cultural phenomenon, one that’s developed a cult following complete with salaried employees and ScareHouse tattoos. The Scream District will operate Thursday through Sunday evenings until early November. Private groups can book “Stalked by a Killer” for corporate team-building exercises during extended daytime hours, adding spookiness to the average Tuesday lunch break. Kate Berner, who served as deputy communications director for Biden’s campaign in 2020, said Republicans already had tried the same tactic during protests over Floyd's murder. “The radical extremists and far-left agitators are terrorizing college campuses, as you possibly noticed," Trump said. “And Biden’s nowhere to be found. He hasn’t said anything."

Depending on what room you stay in, you might see a ghost or experience paranormal activity. Meeting Street Inn, another Charleston hotel, is also supposedly haunted. The popular haunted house attraction is in its second year of hosting its spooky attractions at the Pittsburgh Mills mall in Frazer. It was previously located on Locust Street in Etna before the company announced plans to relocate in August 2019.

Perhaps the most ambitious scene is the “courtyard” of the possessed house. Patrons walk through a backyard scattered with skeletal bits and see a character called the Specter of the Forest, dressed in branches and grass. In the parlor, a motion detector causes a piano top to rattle but once a patron points their flashlight at it, a photon sensor causes it to stop. This creates the impression that a poltergeist is responding to patrons’ actions. As patrons enter the attraction, they are given flashlights and come into a darkened parlor, decked out in antique furniture.

It also needs to be said that the very nature of The Basement still presents some very real challenges right now due to Covid19, even during what is hopefully the waning days of this global pandemic. We’ve explored alternate ways of presenting the experience but ultimately we’re not willing to bring The Basement back until we can safely give guests the same kind of intensity as previous productions. Despite the White House criticism of violent college protests and Biden's refusal to heed demands to cut off U.S. support for Israel, Republicans blame Democrats for the disorder and have used it as a backdrop for press conferences. Biden will make his own visit to a college campus on May 19 when he’s scheduled to deliver the commencement address at Morehouse University in Atlanta. Biden said that he did not want the National Guard to be deployed to campuses. Some Republicans have called for sending in troops, an idea with a fraught history.

Sweet Dreams Scare House in South Carolina might be considered the very top of the list, but it isn't the only haunted house in the state that'll send shivers down your spine. Scream Acres, located in Bishopville, SC, is another terrifying contender. It has been ranked in the top haunted houses in the country and includes other fun activities like a hayride, so the whole family can enjoy it. Nightmare Dungeon in Greenville is one that's certainly not for the faint of heart. You'll need to sign a waiver there to get the entire experience - if you dare.

(August 26, 2022) Charlotte, NC – Charlotte is less than a month out from the launch of the first ever Charlotte International Arts Festival—or CIAF—the ambitious display of arts and culture that will take over the Queen City for 17 days of discovery, play, and creativity September 16–October 2. Earlier this year, the Leon Levine Foundation pledged $100,000 to support CIAF. This newest pledge marks the foundation’s largest gift to the nonprofit performing arts organization to date. Several of last year’s most popular attractions will return, including a large-scale installation by Moradavaga, a collaborative of Italian and Portuguese architects. They’ll feature Lotty, a giant interactive squid sculpture complete with acoustic properties. Birdmen, the large-scale animated puppets, also returns with new surprises for children and those young at heart.

The new energized and inclusive fitness center, focused on multiple approaches to fitness from personal training, individual workouts, specialized classes, weight rooms, and a water massage chair, confirm TIAA’s commitment to employee wellbeing. A live moss wall and custom reception desk of timber sourced directly from TIAA’s campus. Smart-technology lockers, large changing rooms, walk-in showers, and intuitive wayfinding complemented by graphics and invigorating lighting heighten the experience. To encourage employees to experience time outdoors, the campus also provides walking trails, mini golf, bocce ball, pickle ball, and basketball courts. With the company’s stated commitment to the environment in mind, TIAA protected the natural wetlands providing a welcoming wellness moment. And while it wasn’t her own house the Ballantyne resident and multidisciplinary artist was constructing, her focus and commitment to the project was nonetheless all-consuming.

Her hand-painted shoes have paid homage to history, social justice movements and breast cancer awareness, among other things.

This festival will take place September 13 to 29, 2024, in locations in Uptown Charlotte and Ballantyne. The mini-festival-within-a-festival kicks off CIAF with a celebration of Charlotte’s hip hop culture and artists with performances, DJ and B-Boy battles, a block party, and more. Big, bold images from festival events are paired with bright colors and statement artwork as a backdrop for language that plays with the festival’s acronym, CIAF. For example, an image of Lotty by artist collective Moradavaga, a largescale interactive sculpture of a squid, is paired with the line “Calamari is Attacking Festival.” The campaign sparks its audience to do a double-take, then interpret for themselves.

How To DIY Limewash a Brick Home Like the Pros Do Your Home Renewed

limewash brick house

Two or more coats of limewash produce a color closer to that of exterior house paint, though some brick color will show through in places. If you plan to apply regular paint over the limewashed exterior brick wall (with high lime content), you will need to apply a special primer coat first. How light or dark the limewash color will appear will also depend on the number of coats you have applied and the porosity of the surface it’s being painted on. To make a limewash for brick, mix a handful of hydrated lime powder in a bucket of water using a wire whisk.

How to Limewash Brick Exterior

Just finding the perfect mixture one time will not be enough. But it means that you absolutely HAVE to practice on a test area before you go tackling your entire house. I recommend doing relatively small sections, especially in the beginning as you perfect your technique. With temperatures between degrees, the water you spray on your house evaporates quickly. I'm Sarah Lyall, I have a background in interior design and a lifelong love of all things home and garden, so it's no surprise that I ended up turning my passion into a career. If you have heard of whitewashing and are familiar, this might be something you want to consider.

Check out these other Limewash Posts!

To help the limewash bond with the brick, keep the surface slightly damp as you work. Use a spray bottle filled with water to mist the area before applying each coat. Next, dip your paint brush or roller into the limewash and apply as you would with traditional paint. Kuhn says some products recommend wetting the wall first, so again, be sure to follow the label instructions. Thoroughly clean the brick surface to remove any dust, dirt, or debris.

Juliet shows you how to make a DIY side table with minimal tools

If you have a small surface, like a brick fireplace, with a limewash finish, you can clean it with a solution of water and a small amount of pH-neutral soap (like a mild dish soap). The most traditional method calls for using a large or small masonry brush (depending on how much surface area you plan to cover) to apply the limewash in smooth strokes. This allows for thinner coats that you can build up to your desired thickness and appearance.

Another advantage of limewash brick is how low-maintenance it is. It’s astonishing to learn that when you pick limewash brick, you won’t have to do any maintenance at all. Because brick has the best porous surface, the paint will never have difficulty sinking into it.

How to mix your limewash

The only maintenance required is a fresh coat when the color appears to have faded. A new layer like this is usually required every five years, so after applying limewash to a brick wall, you may expect to be worry-free for at least five years. Although there is no special limewashed brick paint, it is one of the most excellent surfaces for this sort of paint to be applied on, so there is no need to mistrust the outcome.

For the Love of Pete, Test Your Limewash Technique FIRST

Unfortunately, I didn’t nail this technique down until the THIRD side of my house–so I had to back to visible areas with that I’d missed with that tiny brush. I’d like to say this was the first time that happened, but it wasn’t. I’ve been screwing projects since 2018, but I wouldn’t change a DANG thing, guys. It’s a good guide to have on hand, I guess, but finding your ideal consistency really depends on your brick, weather, and the look you want.

Lime washed Walls

In fact, it actually calcifies to the surface allowing the brick to still breathe and wick that moisture away from the home. Within 4-5 years, you may find chipping and flaking on the exterior of your home because regular paint just sits on top of the brick. Limewashing this house was just one of MANY exterior projects I did last Spring, and they were not totally completed. The limewash looks great–but the house overall still has a long way to go. Then I’d go BACK over the same area with the correct (much less watery) mixture, covering all the bricks evenly.

In this article, we talk about different homes and how they have benefited from a coat of limewash. Mixing your own limewash saves money and gives you greater freedom to change the consistency of the limewash. The nature of limewash is to fade over time into an aged patina, giving it a unique look. However, the Romabio Limewash comes with a 20 year warranty and won't chip or peel. Jack Luis is a semi-retired painter who loved painting his clients’ ideas on their walls. Stains on the limewashed surface can also be easily removed by rubbing over them lightly using a damp rag.

This technique allows the bricks to age naturally, developing a rich patina. In contrast, whitewash, often a mixture of lime and water, provides a similar rustic look but does not penetrate the brick as deeply as limewash. This can result in a less durable finish requiring more frequent touch-ups.

Check my Incomplete List of the Best Tools & Supplies for DIYers. It includes ONLY tools & supplies that I’ve personally used and recommend, plus some honest notes about each product and what you really need (and don’t need). Ranch-style homes are known for their sprawling expanse and open concept. But even though the structures are usually just one story tall, they cover a lot of areas.

We opted to keep the brick an opaque, solid finish so we could watch the Classico Limewash patina and change slowly over the years. It’s an easy process that will transform the exterior of a home with beautiful results. And don’t be scared if it looks a bit translucent while wet – Romabio tells us that’s how it’s supposed to look at first. But if your brick is clean, you can simply use a garden hose to wet the surface of the brick. So take the extra step to kill and remove any algae and moss growing on your exterior surfaces. Since it’s a dilutable product, there is a lot of forgiveness in this step.

Transfer a workable amount of solution to a small bucket or a roller pan and use a paintbrush or a paint roller to roll it onto the bricks.

Lime washed bricks are the simplest, not to mention the most cost-effective, method to update the entrance to your home. Limewash is a type of paint that is made from slaked lime (calcium hydroxide) and water. Limewash has been used for centuries as a decorative and protective building coating.

Limewash Bricks are a concept that has been used for a long time now, but what exactly is it? Essentially, a limewash is nothing but crushed limestones mixed with water to make a wash. From drab to fab, rustic to modern, each house tells a unique tale of metamorphosis that captures the imagination. There are additional techniques to distress your limewash to give it an old-world feel.

Why not renovate the entrance to make your property appear more distinguished? That is the first thing your guests will notice when they enter the house. Make it the main point by differentiating it from the rest of the outside.

"This is how most pro applicators get that clean, professional look." Limewash almost always needs to be diluted with more water before you apply it. Pour the limewash into a large bucket, slowly add water per your specific product's instructions, and mix thoroughly. If you see any standing water on the surface, keep mixing until it's incorporated. This home’s architectural features got lost because the stone and brick (and many other design elements) were fighting for attention. The limewash stone and brick in Avorio White draws the eye to the porch and entryway as well as the stone archway leading to the side door.

How To DIY Limewash a Brick Home Like the Pros Do

Limewash brick allows homeowners to conceal unsightly colors or highlight specific parts of their property without the expense of painting. Limewash is eco-friendly and develops beautifully over time, giving your home a one-of-a-kind appeal. The total square footage of brick walls that I was limewashing was 523 sq. The coverage that you get from it is really dependent upon how thick or thin you mix your paint.

A stiff bristle brush and/or durable sponge is handy for this, and a soapy water mixture will suffice. You'll also provide a layer of breathable protection for your bricks if you limewash them. The biggest advantage of limewashed brick is that it can revitalize and enhance existing texture. In other words, it breathes new life into both interior spaces and external facades. Keep reading to learn how to limewash brick, the advantages of doing so, and how to properly care for your brick once it’s been limewashed.

Limewash paint must be applied on a damp surface, so use a hose and spray a section of your brick with water. When you first open the Romabio limewash container, it’s kind of like a thick peanut butter consistency with a lot of water that rises to the top. I completely scoured the internet for every blog post and video about limewashing before I dove into the project. And even though I didn’t FEEL super confident, I thought I basically knew what I was getting into. That’s all it takes to prepare your brick for limewash–but that’s DEFINITELY not all you should do before starting. Romabio’s limewash should be applied when it’s between degrees Fahrenheit.

Use a paint strainer to eliminate the lumps that can build up as lime powder sticks together. But remember, if you’re not paying attention to the DIY steps, you may not get the process done just right. It turns out that Romabio paint, which is a mineral-based paint made with high-quality ingredients, allows for moisture to be released which finally defeats this ugly problem. In the 16 years we have lived in our home, one of the best upgrades we have ever made, is our DIY carriage door update. Without the added accessories, our garage doors are very boring.

And the best way to refresh the exterior of your home is to limewash the walls fully. Limewash can stay on a variety of materials, like concrete, bricks, and stone, so you never have to worry about the walls. Purchasing pre-mixed limewash, sometimes called limewash paint, is a convenient way to limewash brick without mixing raw ingredients. Much of the color of brick will show through one coat of limewash.

If you’re not in love with the color of your brick but are opposed to painting, then limewash can be a great option. It can brighten the color of your home, like in this example, and cover imperfections in the masonry. Adding wood elements to the windows and front door warm up the brick and make the home more inviting. The original Tudor home had a darker color palette with multiple surface types, making it hard to find a focal point. The limewash brick and stone in the same color and painting the stucco a similar shade brings the home together. And whether you have ranch style home or one made of brick walls, you can be sure that limewashing brick is good.

Limewash gets its name from the fact that limestone is the main element. Limewash may also refer to a verb or action that involves applying limewash paint to brick or another surface. German smear and limewash are both decorative finishes for masonry surfaces. German smear involves smearing a mixture of mortar and water onto the surface of the brick or stone and wiping it off with a sponge or rag, resulting in a textured, rustic look. Elevate the innate elegance and charm of your brick surfaces with limewash, a versatile and eco-friendly solution that imparts a distinctive, aged aesthetic. In this short article we'll provide useful tips in the process of limewashing brick to help you achieve an impressive outcome.

Because color can crack, peel, or discolor over time, it requires additional upkeep. Limewash absorbs into the brick, preventing it from chipping. Paint, on the other hand, offers extra coverage and color possibilities. As limewash is a form of paint that has been around for a long time, it does not include any hard procedures.

Charlotte Smith Returns To North Carolina For 30-Year Anniversary Of The Shot Elon University Athletics

Charlotte Smith has already become Elon University’s all-time winningest women’s basketball coach in just 12 seasons at the helm there, but she joins several other outstanding women’s coaches who are enshrined in the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame. “When she said that I was gonna take the shot, my heart really sank because it’s a lot of pressure — national championship game, everything hanging in the balance off of a shot,” said Smith, admitting that she’d never been more nervous in a game. Following the ABL's cessation of operations in 1999, Smith participated in the 1999 WNBA Draft, where the Charlotte Sting chose her with the 33rd overall pick. During offseasons, she interned with the Sting's front office, worked with US Sport Management, Inc., played a second winter season in Italy in 1999–2000, and served as an UNC women's basketball assistant coach for several seasons.

Hatchell initially called for a lob to Crawley, but the Lady Techsters’ defensive setup led Lawrence to call a timeout. During the second timeout, Hatchell decided to go for the win instead of the tie. After Pam Thomas gave Louisiana Tech a two-point lead with 15.5 seconds left, UNC didn’t call a timeout and Sampson missed a driving 12-foot jumper. After a scramble, a held ball was called with 0.7 of a second left, and fortunately for the Tar Heels, they had the possession arrow.

So well that she was the second woman to dunk in a women's basketball game. Smith, who was selected to the ACC’s 50th Anniversary Team, also became the first woman to dunk a basketball in competition during her senior year. So, when the talented 6-footer enrolled at North Carolina, of course she had to wear No. 23, too.

"It opened up a world of opportunity and any time you give someone an opportunity, you give them a chance to be all that they can be." As a kid, she thought her only path to a pro career might be in the NBA. Years later, Smith still wasn’t sure why Hatchell picked her to take the shot. When they were traveling together when Hatchell was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, Smith asked.

"I didn't know a lot of the greats because we were not on television," Smith said of the lack of women's coverage. But, she added, with increased exposure there's a bigger fan base and more support, which leads to growth of the game. The win completed a huge turnaround for the UNC program, which finished 12–16 and last in the ACC the season before Smith arrived. Tech players defensively, and I was able to just backpedal out scot-free,” Smith said. She was briefly affiliated with the Indiana Fever at the start of the 2006 season. Another interesting sidelight is that Hatchell was an assistant coach for the 1988 U.S. Olympic women’s basketball team which won the gold medal at the Games in Seoul, Korea. The ball slithered through the net for Smith’s only 3-pointer of the season, UNC won 60–59, and the Tar Heels (33–2) were national champions on a memorable Sunday afternoon that fans, players and coaches will never forget.

In the offseason, the Hawks traded Smith in a 4 player trade to the Portland Trail Blazers alongside Ed Gray in exchange for Jim Jackson and Isaiah Rider. She had to make a college roster to learn from women who played at a high level, and travel overseas to build a professional career. Now, people can see women's pro leagues and women's college games more often, and an incredible talent like Cooper is far less likely to fall under the radar. In the national semifinal round, Smith and UNC made light work of Purdue for an victory. The next day the Tar Heels would take on a Louisiana Tech team on a 25-game win streak. According to Smith, the game was one of the most demanding of her basketball career.

"When I'm in a silly mood," says junior guard Tonya Cooper, "I can always count on Charlotte to be silly with me." "After we tied up the ball, I remember so vividly looking up at the clock, and my heart sank," Smith said. "I was thinking, 'What can you do in seven-tenths of a second?' I felt like we had lost the game. I felt this deep sense of grief overcome me." And Smith remains close with her mentor, North Carolina's Sylvia Hatchell, who is approaching her 1,000th career win.

Smith was selected fifth overall in the 1991 NBA draft by the Miami Heat, a young expansion team which featured other young players such as Glen Rice, Rony Seikaly and Brian Shaw. Smith played in 61 games in his rookie season, starting in 59 with averages of 12 points a game and 4.6 assists. The young team made the playoffs to face the top seeded defending champion Chicago Bulls, who swept the Heat in 3 games in the first round. Injuries limited Smith to 48 games in the 1992–93 season, but he increased his scoring average to 16 points a game. The following 2002–03 season would mark Smith's final year in San Antonio, while second-year point guard Tony Parker blossomed into the team's second leading scorer. The same was the case for guard Stephen Jackson who consequently came to serve as the team's main starting shooting guard, with Smith starting in just 18 games for the season as a result of injuries limiting him to just 58 total games.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to become a head coach because I can really relate to how much of her heart and her soul she's had to pour out to build a program," Smith said. Things looked bleak for the Tar Heels, though, when they got the jump ball trailing Louisiana Tech by 2 and just 0.7 seconds on the clock.

This movie was the first feature-length film directed by Rob Zombie, making it a significant milestone in his career. The Devil's Rejects and 3 from Hell have since rounded out the trilogy, so this might come as a surprise to many fans. But Zombie knew the troubles that accompany getting a movie funded, and as the filmmaker explained in a 2013 interview, "If someone's willing to put up that money and make your film happen, you really can't look that gift horse in the mouth." Now terrified that House of 1,000 Corpses would be slapped with an NC-17 rating—a box-office kiss of death—the studio asked Zombie to tone the movie down. His finished film was Texas Chainsaw Massacre but more gleeful and carnivalesque; it was The Rocky Horror Picture Show but more cramped and grotesque.

The film’s dialogues are filled with dark humor and sarcasm.

The roots of this makeshift clan are about as twisted as the brutality they get up to. Although a biopic of Marx that Zombie was supposed to direct has yet to come to fruition, Marx's work will forever live on through Zombie's characters. House of 1000 Corpses delves into the darkest corners of the human psyche, challenging viewers with its exploration of taboo subjects. Zombie crafted a non-linear storytelling style that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats, unsure of what will happen next. The inclusion of songs from Zombie’s own discography adds an extra layer of intensity and personality to certain scenes.

House of 1000 Corpses was shot on a tight filming schedule.

The success of House of 1000 Corpses paved the way for Zombie to create a follow-up film that further explores the twisted world of the Firefly family. The sinister clown’s face, with its menacing grin, instantly grabs viewers’ attention and sets the tone for the film. The movie spawned a series of sequels, including The Devil’s Rejects and 3 from Hell, delving deeper into the disturbing world of the Firefly family. The graphic content and disturbing scenes in the film sparked debates about the boundaries of horror and artistic expression. Zombie’s love for vintage horror shines through as he pays homage to iconic films from the golden era of horror cinema.

“Lionsgate made back all their money the first day,” Zombie crowed to the A.V. Safety was an afterthought, with one scene calling for an actor to dodge a real ax wielded by another performer whose vision was severely compromised by his costume. “We just assumed she would get out of the way,” Zombie remarks on the film’s DVD commentary. Mixed in with this motley collection of Zombie’s favorite actors were his friends.

Rob Zombie doesn’t shy away from portraying gruesome and shocking moments, adding to the overall horror experience. The graphic violence and unsettling imagery led to restrictive classifications in certain parts of the world. This quirky detail adds another layer of twisted charm to the already eerie setting. Rob Zombie drew inspiration from the House of Horrors attraction at Universal Studios when naming the movie. While some critics appreciated the unique vision of Rob Zombie, others felt the movie was too graphic and disturbing.

It does, after all, contain torturous mental abuse, bloody murder, and, for good measure, necrophilia. To fans, however, it's one of Rob Zombie's masterpieces, and the film that launched his career in horror. As anyone familiar with his music videos can attest to, it's not a surprise that Zombie has etched his name in the annals of horror movie history. What is surprising is that House of 1000 Corpses took such a long and winding road to the theaters, that he initially thought he wouldn't be making sequels, and above all, that it was his first film. The movie simply feels too self-assured, too confident, and frankly, too good to be a first outing.

Now that Zombie has had his hands on countless titles, making him a mainstay in the horror movie genre, fans might be surprised to learn that House of 1000 Corpses was his directorial debut. Since this debut, Zombie has gone on to make two Halloween movies, The Lords of Salem, 31, The Haunted World of El Superbeasto, The Devil's Rejects, 3 from Hell, and other projects. Making this happen would be difficult, however, which made him reluctant. Luckily, the intervening years had only sharpened House of 1,000 Corpses’ flavor. “It’s a pre-9/11 film, released to a post-9/11 audience, that somehow really handily preempts all these themes we had suddenly become obsessed with in our movies,” Martin said. Surveillance, captivity, revenge, paranoia, culture clash—it was all in there.

He gave the role of squeaky psycho Baby Firefly to his then-girlfriend (now wife), Sheri Moon. Chris Hardwick, a buddy he’d met at the MTV Music Awards, was asked to play Jerry, one of the four kids, with Zombie telling him he’d written the part of a “loud, obnoxious asshole” specifically for him. House of 1,000 Corpses draws heavily from the horror canon that Zombie feasted on growing up in the sleepy town of Haverhill, Massachusetts, in the years before he went off to New York City to found White Zombie and become a heavy metal god. Later that night, the three remaining teenagers are dressed as rabbits and taken out to an abandoned well.

You can visit it for free on the Museums of the Arroyo Day or during the City of Pasadena’s ArtNight. This was one of the first homes I ever toured in LA and fell in love with learning about the history of the unique homes in the area. House of 1000 Corpses is graphic and disturbing — just look at the title. It's so dark, in fact, that it almost didn't see the light of day. The movie's violence and sadism led to it not being able to shake an NC-17 rating, caused Universal to shelve it. In time, director Rob Zombie bought the rights, and went on his own harrowing adventure to find another distributor.

The other two films in the Firefly trilogy aren't even the only sequels Zombie has gone on to make. An animated musical "sidequel" released in 2009, The Haunted World of El Superbeasto, is also part of the tale. The explosion of the movie’s fanbase really hit actor Robert Allen Mukes, who played Rufus Firefly, for the first time a few years ago, when he signed an autograph for a 12-year-old girl. Here is a list of cruise ships that have sunk throughout history, including ocean liners, as they are considered early versions of modern cruise ships.

The ship was originally built as the ocean liner SS Galileo Galilei and later converted to a cruise ship. The MS Estonia was a cruise ferry carrying 989 passengers and crew at the time of the incident. It was traveling from Tallinn, Estonia to Stockholm, Sweden, when it hit a storm and started taking on water. The Costa Concordia was carrying 4,229 passengers and crew at the time of the incident.

As the stricken ship lost power and listed dangerously near King George Island, the well-trained crew urgently evacuated all 154 passengers and crew into lifeboats. Thanks to an effective emergency response, not a single life was lost in the dramatic sinking in frigid Antarctic waters. The sinking of the Oriental Star, also known as the Eastern Star, remains one of the most tragic cruise ship sinkings in recent times. On the evening of June 1, 2015, the Oriental Star was cruising through the waters of the Yangtze River in China when disaster struck.

One noteworthy incident occurred in 2013 when the Carnival Triumph experienced an engine fire that left the ship adrift in the Gulf of Mexico for several days. Passengers endured deplorable conditions with limited power, food, and working toilets. The incident highlighted the importance of backup systems and emergency response protocols to prevent such situations from escalating.

Cruise lines themselves face significant financial and reputational consequences following a sinking incident. The cost of search and rescue operations, legal settlements, and insurance claims can be substantial. Additionally, the negative publicity and public scrutiny can result in decreased bookings and revenue. Rebuilding public trust and restoring the reputation of the cruise line may take years.
